Pondering the Works of the Lord

I learned a new Scripture a week or so ago, and I just love it.  Here it is in two different versions.

Psalm 11:2

Great are the works of the Lord;

they are pondered by all who delight in them. (NIV 84)

God's works are so great, worth a lifetime of study—endless enjoyment! (Msg)

I love pondering the works of the Lord, pondering nature and all the wonders therein.

Bees are so amazing, they work so hard collecting pollen for their hives.  And they go around pollinating the flowers that make our garden grow.  "Busy as a bee" is an apt description.  Another thing we've noticed about the bees is that they tend to immerse themselves in their work.

We went on a hike last week, and there were some cute little kids along, and it was so fun to point out to them all the ways God is so protective of his creatures by designing their camouflage.

We saw frogs, tad poles, and some unusual bugs in the stream.  It was wonderful to just sit and contemplate nature as God intended it.

Lemon Blossom

Hi!  Long time, no write.  I'll try to be more regular this year. 

Please note, that is NOT a New Year's Resolution.  I never keep them, so don't want to jinx this.

Today, I got out in the yard after the Benadryl worked (and before it put me to sleep) and got some work done.  I'll share pictures of the garden and all next time.

Today, I marveled once again at the lovely smell of lemon blossom on our Meyer lemon tree.

And as I was standing there, inhaling the heady scent, I became aware of the honey bees.  Lots of them, buzzing around and ....

The bees are a good sign, and since we don't use any pesticides in our yard except for an ant powder, I hope to see many of them again this year.

The lemons aren't quite ripe yet.  They'll probably be ready in a couple of weeks, and Meyer lemons are more fragile, they ripen all at once, and I'll have lots of lemon juice to freeze and lemonade to make. 

Bees

I looked for Scriptures on bees to go along with this post, but didn't find many.  I wonder why.

The Promised Land was also called a land flowing with milk and honey (and there are lots of references to honey).  And bees make honey, they are very busy.  But God's people are told to look to the ant, a creature I detest.  They over-run my kitchen counters on a regular basis, looking for water or food, depending on who knows what trigger.  Ugh.

But we're talking about bees.  They're very busy, flying here and there, pollinating plants and making honey.

I'm glad there are bees in our yard, the garden and flowers need them.  A large hive on property behind us was destroyed last summer when the property was prepared for reconstruction of a huge house and back house.  So I'm very glad to see bees in my yard.

We weren't so glad to see this a few summers ago, outside the kids' window, but obviously, nothing could come of it and we didn't really worry about it.

None the less, I'm always glad to see bees.  And I still wonder why they barely receive a mention in Scripture.
